Jamshedpur, Jharkhand: Union minister Annapurna Devi on Friday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was "playing in the hands of foreign forces" to create chaos in the country.
The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, while addressing a press conference here, said protests being staged by Gandhi and other opposition leaders were affecting the development and economic growth of the country.
"Congress and other opposition parties have been levelling false allegations against the chief election commissioner over SIR but have failed to provide any evidence," she said.
Attacking Gandhi, she said that the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha raises the accusing finger at the special intensive revision of electoral rolls whenever it loses elections, "but the process suddenly becomes alright when his party wins elections in states".
"Rahul Gandhi wants to capture power through 'bheedtantra' (mobocracy) by misleading youths to create confusion and chaotic conditions in the country. He is playing in the hands of foreign forces to destabilise the country," she alleged.
SIR is aimed at removing the names of ineligible voters, and no eligible elector has been removed from the voter list, she claimed.
"Rahul Gandhi should play a constructive role as the LoP, but he had been tarnishing the country's image even in foreign lands," she alleged.
The minister claimed that opposition parties were unable to digest the country's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She said the BJP has launched a fortnight-long 'Democracy Bachao, Bheedtantra Hatao' campaign on Thursday to make people aware of how the opposition was "spreading canards and trying to mislead youth to create chaos in the country".
